2012 Salsa Chili Con Crosso (includes Carbon fork)

The Chili Con Crosso is Salsa's competition-based cyclocross machine. It is designed for lightweight efficiency for ‘cross and gravel racing. Front end steering control is improved through the use of a tapered headtube and tapered carbon fork. The PressFit BB 30 bottom bracket increases power transfer. Cantilever brakes keep the weight down. Swappable vertical and horizontal rear dropouts allow you to choose a geared or singlespeed setup.
The ‘Chili’ doesn’t load up on extra braze-ons. Its features are all realistic, race inspired, and focused on the task at hand. Warm up your legs because this is gonna start fast. Chili Con Crosso. The gun at the knife fight.

The Cross-Check is a great bike. It was Surly's third frame ever offered, and is also available as a complete bike. Neither the frame nor the component spec of the bike have changed much since it was introduced it almost a decade ago because…well, why should it? There have been a few small changes and updates over the years when those changes were either necessary or just plain a good idea. For instance, this year they added mid-blade eyelets to the fork for mounting a front rack. This isn’t a touring bike per se, but it will handle lighter touring loads, and a front rack can make that easier.

But that begs the question: what is this bike for? It’s a cyclocross bike by category, but Surly designs a lot of versatility into their stuff. You can build this frame with gears or as a singlespeed or fixed-gear. You can ride it on the road or off. It’s got lots of space for fat tires and for fenders. It does as good a job getting you across the country as it does getting you across town.
