2014 Surly Cross Check SS

It's Surly's ever-popular Cross Check frame, but now with a stripped-down single-speed drivetrain for mechanical durability, urban practicality, and utter simplicity. Made from Surly's favored chromoly tubing, the bike boasts a lugged fork, a complete set of fender and rack eyelets, and the vibration-damping, super comfortable ride we expect from high-quality steel. No-nonsense wheels feature Surly Ultra New Hubs, and Alex rims wrapped in 42mm Continental Tour Ride tires, so you can keep rolling wherever your road leads. Avid linear-pull brakes let you keep things under control, while a WTB saddle and Salsa Moto-Ace handlebar keep you comfortable.

    Comments:

Changing the super sluggish Shimano freewheel to a White Industries is the only upgrade needed to make this bicycle PERFECT. 132.5mm dropouts means you can ride road 130 / or mtn 135 rear wheels. The excellent steel toptube rings so load when flicked, that you don't need bells & whistles. The stem/bar joint is the largest 31.5mm & the strongest. Build up choice as 3 x 9 or as is SS. VERY VERSATILE ; easy to rebuild. There is nothing wrong with this Surly model.
