Giro Air Attack Shield

Giro’s Air Attack Shield was born in the wind tunnel to give you an aerodynamic advantage against the competition, the clock, and your riding buddies. This sleek road helmet uses the same frontal shape found in traditional time trial helmets for unparalleled efficiency, but Giro removed the tail, so you can use this lid on every ride in stylish comfort. You’ll love the breezy airflow and the excellent fit thanks to Giro's Roc Loc Air fit system and internal cooling channels. Also, knowing how quickly riding conditions can change, Giro ingeniously implemented a magnetic Carl Zeiss Optics shield for quick, easy attachment and removal.

-I couldn't imagine a helmet being more comfortable than this, I could wear it all day at work like a hat, it's that comfortable.-The eye shield is great because it's convenient not having to adjust my sun glasses that shift, slide, and hurt the tops of my ears. The shield position allows the perfect air flow for cooling around my eyes without drying them out, and doesn't fog up. With my sun glasses, every morning commute my glasses would fog in the humidity and heat.-Wearing the GUTR with my other helmets, I would still get sweat in my eyes when it would spill over. For some reason I don't with this, but I suspect it's because of the ventilation that comes in at the top of the lens pushes the sweat to the sides. My other helmets sit just above the gutr, blocking the air and making me tilt my head to drain out the gutr. -When I ride high speeds in the aero position on my TT bike, some of my sweat gets blown onto the inside of the lens. It happens with my sun glasses also which is worse because they're so close to my face, I get it in my eyes. I'm sure my epic sweating abilities play a part in this.I can't tell if it cools as well as my Giro Ionos. I don't see how it could with the few ventilation holes, but the air channels are designed well and I haven't noticed feeling more warm. I can't tell by sweat level because I don't think I could possibly sweat anymore than I do anyways. So as far as I can tell it cools as well.I notice a lot of double-takes from other commuting cyclists looking at me. Probably wondering if I'm going to a halloween party as Speed Racer. I suppose many think it looks cool, some think it looks dorky, but either way, I'm not one that likes to stand out via fashion lol... I have more of a plain jane preference. However, at this point I like it enough to suck it up and make it my main helmet for everything from commuting to time trials.

            Comments:

Sweat can run down the visor in hot weather or when pushing hard when you look down. Also at descent speeds over 35 mph the visor does not give much air protection and can bring water to your eyes. Otherwise perfect, would I buy one again? Absolutely yes!

              Comments:

Wearing the Air Attack Shield is like sitting in the cockpit of an F-16 fighter jet. I wear glasses and sunglasses while riding and prior to purchasing this helmet I really struggled with the fact that while in a riding position I had to look over the top of my glasses to see what was ahead of me. This riding position also exposed my eyes to insects and other debris floating in the air. With the Air Attack Shield there is continuous protection from the helmet to the bridge of my nose. The shield also helps keep my glasses higher up on my face so that I am looking through my prescription lenses even when my head is down and looking forward. The ventilation seems equal to that of any open air helmet. I searched for a helmet with a shield at the end of last summer and found the announcement for the Air Attack Shield. I am so glad it is finally available because it is the perfect solution for what I was seeking!
