Product Details

2013 Pivot Cycles Mach 429 (XT Standard)

Want a 29er that delivers big-wheeled speed with quick, agile and lively handling? You got it—Pivot's Mach 429 goes from the race circuit to the techy backwoods with equal tenacity. Thanks to its light aluminum frame and dw-link suspension, this rig gives you unrivaled climbing traction and bob-free acceleration. Stiffness is key, especially with 29ers, so the 429 boasts a 92mm-wide BB, stout 142x12mm rear through-axle, tapered head tube and a 1-piece carbon rocker, all of which combine to give you a bike that responds and corners like a dream. Plus, a 120mm Fox fork, Shimano's solid 2x10 XT group, reliable DT Swiss wheels and Shimano XT discs let the 429 rip like a purebred racer and descend like a true trail bike.

The cost of this bike made me hold off much longer than if I went with a lesser bike. I had a chance to demo '29er bikes from Specialized and Trek. Both were okay but neither got me really excited. I finally got the money to get this bike and I am sooooo glad I waited. Holy Cow! I am having so much fun riding. I'm clearing sections of technical trail easily; sections I struggled with for a long time on my old bike. Both up and down. Cornering is where I noticed the biggest difference. My old bike (2002 Stumpjumper FSR Comp) washed out all the time, which caused a lot of crashes and caused me to go a lot slower. This bike holds like its on a rail. If you're hesitant to get it because of the cost, I am certain you won't be disappointed. It's a solid bike which is comfortable to ride all day. I have been doing business with my LBS for 30 years and they are the best.
