WARNING: Mountain Biking is Potentially Dangerous!

Introduction:

Maybury is located just west of downtown Northville, mountain bikers have been enjoying the park for since the late 80'. The old trails used to be a combination of horse and hiking, and were non-directional! This always added added a little extra challenge around blind corners. In the mid 90's the MMBA become involved in the trail development and maintenance. The MMBA developed new trails and added signage to separate pedestrian traffic and help avoid possible conflicts.
The current trail is about 6.5 + Miles of gentile rolling hills, some great gradual climbs with nautral techincal features mixed. The natural features all have a safe by-pass for newer riders too. The short hills and distance make this an excellent place for beginners and novice riders to get ready for more challenging trails like Poto or Pontiac Lake. When riding on any trail always ride smart, wear a helmet, and be safe. If a section looks tough it probably is...There is no shame in getting off and walking portions you think are dangerous, or above your skill level. While Maybury may get beginner and novice riders heart pumping, experts will find the recent re-routes more challenging and fun as well.

Season:
Winter - The trail used to be closed from December to April. But working with the DNR Park staff the MMBA has helped get the winter riding ban lifted for this entire trail system. There are only a few rules we need to follow to enjoy this park year round.
1.) Parking - please park in the Beck Road parking lot from December 15th - April 15th. Using the new "Winter Trail Head for riding. And park 8 mile Entrance from April 16th - December 14th using the Summer Trail Head. The park does close at dusk as well.

2.) Please refrain from any trail riding riding while during the spring thaw or when trail conditions are very wet. You can monitor this on the MMBA website under their "Trail Conditions Section".

Summers can be fun with as this trail winds around and over gentle rolling hills. Drink lots of water, wear bright breathable clothing, bring BUG REPELLANT, and as Dr. Lisa always says "Wear Sunscreen".

Note: Michigan DNR asks that you don't use trails during wet weather or during spring thaw, this will damage the trails and hurt mountain bike/DNR relations. Please avoid the trails during the spring thaw. If your uncertain check out the MMBA website (link below) for current updates.

Support The MMBA

Plea for Responsibility: With the growing number of new Mountain bikers, trail erosion has become very evident at several popular trails. The weekend traffic has grown heavier and less concerned, This has taken its toll. Trails that were handling challenges, have become speedways for the out of control masses. Even Highland, which is only a few years old is showing signs of misuse, I could barely ride A and B loops in 1996, now they are easily traversed. The many chapters of MMBA do a fantastic job on maintenance and access, but as riders we should share the burden and ride sensibly. Stay in control, ride on the beaten path (avoid short cuts), and try not to destroy any vegetation.

Also, If you see someone tearing it up with total disregard for the trail and those who maintain it, say somthing. When taking beginners on any trail, always try to teach some etiquette. You can use following the MMBA, and IMBA's Guidelines for trail etiquette.
