Introduction:
The hard work
of the Pennsylvania Alliance of Climbers (P.A.C.) has reopened a classic
bouldering area, this boulderfield has a rich history which includes some
of Pennsylvania's elite climbers. The boulders are composed of gritstone
like that found in England. Closely clustered to each other with a nice
access trail. The area is great for beginners and elite boulderers, with
many vertical and slopy problems. The rock itself has a great texture
but lacks an abundance of overhanging faces, the hardest establish routes
are in the V6-V7 range...so far. David Cooper of the P.A.C describes the
texture as being like "Dried Elephant Skin"...gruesome, but
accurate.
The privately owned land has been leased by the P.A.C. for the use of
it's members only. Access is restricted to specific months and days of
the week throughout the year. The limited months of use is only part of
the very reasonable restrictions the land owner has asked in exchange
for use of the land. This web page will only serve as an introduction
to the area, since access to the area is only available through the P.A.C.
DO NOT GO THERE WITHOUT CONTACTING THE P.A.C. FIRST!
P.A.C. members
are the only people allowed to use the land during the lease months and
times, these are minor regulations for such a cool area. The land owner
has been gracious and agreeably enough to allow climbers to use their
land. But, The main rule is that all climbers are insured. You become
insured as soon as you sign up as a P.A.C member (which can be done via
their website - see banner below). Upon your first trip to Governor Stables
one of the P.A.C. officials will meet with you to walk you through the
area to describe the landuse agreement and short guide of the area. Upon
becoming an P.A.C. member you will also be given a topo map and mini-guide
for Governor Stables.
